Honestly... giving sucks.

Before I begin my rant, I said to myself:, "Self, let's define the word gift." Pow:

"A gift or a present is the transfer of something without the expectation of receiving something in return. Although gift-giving might involve an expectation of reciprocity, a gift is meant to be free." (Source: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gift)

So I am not 'sposed to expect anything...at all!?!? Eff that. I am not to be used.

At least on a weekly basis random posts in my Facebook and Twitter time-lines describe the need to give, the joy of giving, blah blah and freekin' blah. Free advice, free e-books, free toiletries; Santa has nothing on the senseless generosity found on social networks.

But it's sweet that people like to give away stuff, right?

Depending in what it is, it's overrated. Especially when the receiver shows little appreciation, and continuously approaches you with a hand out. They just know they can count on you.

So...what is wrong with this, if the giver likes it, you should love it, right?

I loathe it, and you should too. The excessive giver makes it hard for those who need a fair exchange. The receiver is now expecting more than he or she deserves, for free. Who the hell is anyone, to act like a spoiled brat, expecting gifts without a fair exchange, or any exchange at all?

*awaits the backlash*

So let's calm down with the freebies. You ain't rich so stop frontin'. Blink once if you agree with me...I won't tell a soul!
